Ecoduct and tunnel N350 now open
January 14, 2014
The renovated N350 motorway between Rijssen and Wierden has officially been opened on the 13th of December. Two prominent new infrastructural works are now open as well, namely ecoduct De Grimberg and tunnel ‘t Winkel. Royal HaskoningDHV is responsible for the architecture and landscape architecture of the ecoduct and tunnel.
De Grimberg is the first ecoduct over a N-motorway in the province of Overijssel. The ecoduct has a characteristic form that integrates it seamlessly into the landscape. The form is accentuated by the side panels, which are shaped in the form of a crescent. The ecoduct provides safe passage over the N350 for a variety of local animal species.
The design and situation of the tunnel is mainly a result of safety measures that ensure there is enough light and sight for the user. In floor plan the tunnel consists of two parabolic shapes that run parallel at the mouth and are widest at the ends of the tunnel. The walls lean back at an angle of 30 degrees creating a comfortable width for bicyclists and motorists.
